UK Passport Photo Size and Rules: 35 x 45 mm, Grey Background
UK passport photos are 35 x 45 mm with the head 29 to 34 mm from chin to crown, on a plain light grey or cream background. For online applications the digital photo must be at least 600 x 750 pixels. Keep a neutral expression with your mouth closed.
Printed photo size
A printed UK passport photo is 35 mm wide and 45 mm high. Your head, from chin to the crown of your head, should be between 29 and 34 mm tall, centred in the frame.
Digital photo for online applications
Online applications ask for a digital photo at least 600 pixels wide and 750 pixels tall. SleekCut saves UK photos at 827 x 1063 pixels, a 35 x 45 mm shape at high resolution, as a JPEG.
Background
The background must be plain light grey or cream, with no shadows, patterns or objects. Bright white is not the listed colour, so a light grey wall is the safe choice. UK guidance also says the photo must not be altered by computer software, so the grey must be real, not added afterwards.
Expression and appearance
Look straight at the camera with a neutral expression and your mouth closed. Your eyes must be open and visible, with no hair covering them and no red eye.
Current guidance asks you not to wear glasses in the photo. Head coverings are only allowed for religious or medical reasons. Check the latest rules on the official UK government website before you apply.
Make it with SleekCut
Open the UK Passport Photo page and drop a front facing photo taken against a light grey or cream wall. Your real background is kept and the head is sized to the UK range. Follow the guides, check the size readout, then download the digital photo or a 4 x 6 sheet to print.
