How it works

How to use 2x2 Photo Maker

  1. 01

Take a front facing photo against a plain light wall, in even light.

  2. 02

Your head is fitted to 2 x 2 in (51 x 51 mm). Fine tune by dragging or zooming until the size check turns green.

  3. 03

Download the digital photo or a 4 x 6 print sheet with several copies.

Sized to the rules

The head is measured from the top of the hair to the chin and fitted to the official range of 25 to 35 mm. Guides on the photo show where the top of the head and the chin should sit, and a live check tells you when the size is right.

Keep the real background

This document does not accept digitally altered photos, and a replaced background counts. SleekCut keeps your real background and warns you if you change it. The easiest fix is a plain light wall and even light from a window.

Print at home or at any shop

The 4 x 6 inch print sheet fits several copies with thin cut lines. Print it at a kiosk, a photo shop or at home on photo paper, then cut along the lines.

What the size check means

Used for US passports and visas and many other American documents. The green check only measures head size and position. Requirements change, so check the latest official guidance for your application before you submit.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What size is a 2 x 2 inch photo?

2 x 2 in (51 x 51 mm), with the head 25 to 35 mm from chin to top of head on a white background.

Can I take it with my phone at home?

Yes. Stand in front of a plain light wall, facing a window for even light, about 1.5 metres from the camera, and ask someone to take the photo at eye level. SleekCut then sizes it to the rules.

Can I replace the background for this photo?

No. The official guidance for this document does not accept digitally altered photos, and a replaced background counts. Take the photo against a plain light wall and keep Original; SleekCut sizes and prints it without changing the background.

Does the green size check mean my photo will be accepted?

No. It measures head height and position against the official range. It cannot judge lighting, expression, glasses or whether an office accepts the photo, so check the latest rules for your document.

Can I print it?

Yes. Choose 4 x 6 print sheet to get several copies on a standard photo print, with thin cut lines, ready for any print shop or home printer.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. Everything runs in your browser, so your photo never leaves your device.
