How to Reduce Image Size in KB for Forms, Email and Uploads

Quick answer

Set a Target size and let the tool find the best quality that fits. Doing it by hand: resize first, then compress. For 100 to 200 KB, set the width to about 1000 to 1280 pixels and save as JPG at 60 to 75% quality. For 1 MB, 1920 pixels at 75 to 80% is usually enough. Check the size shown for each file and adjust.

Why your photo is so big

Phone photos are often 12 megapixels or more, which means 3 to 6 MB per file. Forms and portals rarely need more than a fraction of that.

File size depends mostly on pixel count and quality. Cutting the pixels is the biggest saving, so resize before you compress.

Settings for common limits

Under 50 KB: around 600 pixels wide, JPG at 60%.

Under 100 to 200 KB: around 1000 to 1280 pixels wide, JPG at 60 to 75%.

Under 500 KB: around 1600 pixels wide, JPG at 75%.

Under 1 MB: 1920 pixels wide, JPG at 75 to 80%.

These are starting points; busy photos need lower settings than simple ones.

Do it in SleekCut

1. Open Compress Image and drop one or many photos.

2. Set Target size to 20, 50, 100 or 200 KB, or choose Custom and type the limit from your form.

3. Press Compress. SleekCut finds the highest quality under the target, and makes the photo smaller only if it has to. Each file shows its new size and, if it was resized, its new dimensions.

4. If a photo cannot fit at a usable size, it says so instead of pretending. Download files one by one or as a ZIP.

There are also ready pages for common limits, such as Compress Image to 20KB, 50KB, 100KB and 200KB.

Forms that ask for exact pixels

Some forms want a specific size, such as 600 by 600 or 200 by 230 pixels. Use Resize Image first with Fill to get those exact pixels, then compress if the file is still over the limit.

Keep faces centred and the background plain for ID style photos, and follow the form’s own instructions closely.

PNG and screenshots

Screenshots saved as PNG can be large. If the form accepts JPG, saving as JPG makes them much smaller. If transparency matters, choose WebP in the Format option.

Privacy matters for documents

Forms often involve IDs, certificates and personal photos. SleekCut compresses them in your browser, so the files are never uploaded to a third party server.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How do I make a photo under 100 KB?

Open Compress Image and set Target size to 100 KB. It finds the best quality under 100 KB and shows the final size. By hand, about 1000 pixels wide as a JPG at 60 to 70% quality usually works.

Does compressing reduce quality?

A little, but at sensible settings it is not visible at normal sizes.

Can I compress many images at once?

Yes. Drop them all and download a ZIP.
